Rain Garden Workshop: This ½ day workshop is geared towards homeowners or anyone interested in learning about rain garden design and construction, planting recommendations and maintenance. The workshop includes a classroom style instruction (but outside!) followed by hands on installation work.
The objective is to provide homeowners with the tools to develop a rain garden to help control stormwater, risk of flood and reduce water consumption.
Participants are asked to dress for the weather; wear close-toes shoes, gloves, hat, and sunscreen; and bring their own water and snacks. Tools will be provided.
Renny Grilz, Nola Stein and Sue Bouchard
Limited spots available. Please get your free registration ticket at https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/rain-garden-workshop-free-tickets-33865169634.
Held at the Saskatoon Food Bank Garden Patch
Birds In Real Danger-Saskatoon (BIRDS)
Help us walk downtown Saskatoon streets with Michael Mesure from Toronto’s BirdSafe program to search for any injured or dead birds that may have hit windows in highrise buildings overnight. We are hoping to find people to do this on a regular basis as a new initiative by Living Sky Wildlife Rehabilitation, funded in part by a City of Saskatoon grant. This walk will help us identify which buildings to target for future visits.
Meet at NE corner of 22ndSt & 4th Ave by the Saskatoon Square Building
Leaders: Michael Mesure with Jan Shadick (306-281-0554)
This event is hosted by Saskatoon Nature Society, with support from EcoFriendly Sask.
Learn how to use your smartphone to capture beautiful nature and landscape images and exercise your creative side. Join Saskatoon photographer Branimir Gjetvaj for a leisurely walk around a naturalized urban park rich in plant and wildlife subjects.
What to bring: any type of a cell phone with a built-in camera, a snack, drinking water, insect repellent and a wind-proof jacket. We will be walking on rough terrain; please bring shoes with adequate ankle support, and you do not mind if they get slightly muddy (the best pictures are found off the beaten path). Event will be cancelled in case of heavy rain.

The Saskatchewan Perennial Society helps to maintain two gardens at the Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park & Zoo; the Robin Smith Meditation Garden and the Heritage Rose Garden. Labour and Learn is a work-bee organized to weed and prune the gardens. There are usually some experienced gardeners on hand to give you some directions if you require them. Open to all ages, we ask that you bring your own favourite gardening tools. If it is hot, you could also bring some water to drink.
Since the soil at the gardens is heavy clay, this event will be cancelled if it is raining.
No registration required. A parking fee is in effect at the park. It may be waived if you let the attendant know you are there for Garden Clean-up

The Saskatoon Seed Library is planting it’s seed garden during the Nature City Festival to celebrate the importance of protecting locally adapted seed varieties. Come out and learn how to plant and save seeds with us! We will also feature the water saving gardening techniques used by the Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre Garden Patch. We will be growing the Blaue Hilde Purple Pole Bean, the Green Crop bush bean, the Whippersnapper Cherry tomato, the Melfort beefsteak tomato, the Siberian sandwich tomato, cilantro, and Black Seeded Simpson lettuce. You can also join the Saskatoon Seed Library for $2 and this will give you access to the six seed varieties in our inventory. We will have seed packets available for you to take at the event. This event is fun and free and families are welcome. We hope to see you there!
Protecting the world’s seed biodiversity is a critical part of building resilience in a changing world. This event will teach people how to plant seeds and inspire people to think about where their seeds come from. We hope to build a network of local small-scale seed savers in Saskatoon.
